MSSI's Free Medical Camp in 2003, where outrEACH participated actively
Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) is a voluntary organisation whose mission is to minimise the devastating effects of MS on individuals and families. Established in 1985, MSSI has 8 Branch Offices including the Head Office in Bombay, and is affiliated to the International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis Societies.
Although there are only about 2,000 registered MS cases in India, the total number of patients is estimated to be 50,000. An epidemiological study as well as public awareness is required throughout the country in order to support the MS cause.

What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system (the brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). It is thought to be an autoimmune disorder. This means the immune system incorrectly attacks the person's healthy tissue.
MS can cause blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue, problems with memory and concentration, paralysis, and blindness. These problems may be permanent, or they may come and go.
